“Happy new year” song: Lyrics, Facts
“Happy new year” song is a song performed by Agnetha Fältskog, the main vocalist for the Swedish group ABBA, from their 1980 album Super Trouper. It was initially released as a single in December of that year to a very small audience. “Daddy Don’t Get Drunk on Christmas Day” was the song’s working title.
In Spanish-speaking nations, “Felicidad” was released in 1980 in its Spanish-language version.
According to reports, the song was on the South American editions of the Super Trouper album and peaked at number 5 in Argentina.
The song was first made available on CD in 1994 as part of the Polydor US compilation Más ABBA Oro, and it was later included in the 1999 extended reissue of ABBA Oro: Grandes Éxitos. After being re-released in English for the millennium in 1999, the song peaked at number 27 in Sweden, number 15 in the Netherlands, and number 75 in Germany.
It was re-released in many nations in 2008 and peaked at number four in Sweden, number eleven in Norway, and number twenty-five in Denmark.
In 2009, it reentered the Swedish and Norwegian charts at number 5, while in 2011, it entered the Dutch chart at position 8. Since then, it has continued to consistently chart at the beginning of each year in several nations. In Vietnam, the song also came to symbolize the beginning of the year and the Lunar New Year.
A silver glitter vinyl single including the tracks “Happy New Year” and “The Way Old Friends Do” was published in December 2011 and had a 500-copy limit. Only the official ABBA website and the ABBA fan website offered the edition. Within a day of the release announcement, it was sold out.
It was discovered that the alternate mix of “Andante, Andante” had been utilized on the B-side of the single in the boxset rather than the album version upon the publication of ABBA: The 40th Anniversary Singles Box Set on May 5, 2014.
Happy new year Lyrics
No more champagne
And the fireworks are through
Here we are, me and you
Feeling lost and feeling blue
It’s the end of the party
And the morning seems so grey
So unlike yesterday
Now’s the time for us to say
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbor is a friend
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we don’t we might as well lay down and die
You and I
Sometimes I see
How the brave new world arrives
And I see how it thrives
In the ashes of our lives
Oh yes, man is a fool
And he thinks he’ll be okay
Dragging on, feet of clay
Never knowing he’s astray
Keeps on going anyway
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbor is a friend
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we don’t we might as well lay down and die
You and I
Seems to me now
That the dreams we had before
Are all dead, nothing more
Than confetti on the floor
It’s the end of a decade
In another ten years time
Who can say what we’ll find
What lies waiting down the line
In the end of eighty-nine
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbor is a friend
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we don’t we might as well lay down and die
You and I
