“The plugs arrived over a week earlier than expected and they were gorgeous. We opened the boxes and set the trays in the yard and watered for two days before we could plant.

Planting was ridiculously easy and took no time at all. Our soil pH was ok so we set straight in without adding nutrients. A little sandy in that area though. Hubby eyeballed the first tray and planted too far apart but I filled in with the second. Most of the plugs are now approx 12 inches apart.

We planted in an area we wanted to test first, reason for only two trays. Near an oak tree that gets direct and filtered sun from around noon until 6. We were not sure if it got enough sun given the coverage of that tree, and there are several other trees in our yard that posed the same threat.

We watered every morning between 6 and 7 for three solid weeks and are approaching the end of week 4, we have watered every other day this week and for shorter duration (15 mins compared to 45). We intend to mow this weekend for the first time prior to planting the four additional trays we are expecting, since I do need to fill in a few more in this area.

We have not lost a single plug, they are all very green still and most are spreading. We have 5 or 6 looking a little puny but they were deliberately placed near weeds and roots to test for strength. Still green, but possibly suffering. The weeds are growing with all the watering and I will now begin pulling them but I left them alone since realistically they will appear until these have filled in and I wanted real expectations for maintenance needs.

We have ordered four more trays expected this week to squeak in before it’s too late to plant.

We live 25 minutes SE of the Raleigh in NC, have had very little rain since we planted these, and a great many days exceeding 95 degrees. These little suckers are survivors.

Pictures taken three weeks apart so difficult to see a difference but enough in real life for my mailman to get excited about them after returning from a weeks vacation.

Update April 8, 2018: It’s been a weird winter with not much spring yet but last week suddenly almost all of the plugs turned green. There are about a fourth of them struggling, but they are in a high runoff area but are slowly greening up. I’ll post more pictures after the last freeze is behind us. Very pleased to see them at this point. Ordering more next week.”

“We had our swimming pool removed recently so had about 2000 sq feet that needed grass. I had it sprayed with Bermuda grass but it is just beginning to sprout and it didn’t come up everywhere so I decided to supplement it with sprigs. Therefore I purchased these 72 sprigs. While placing my order I saw the Zoysia sprigs advertised. I had never heard of that grass before but it looked interesting so I also order 50 of those plugs which cost about 60% less after taxes and shipping.

I received both at the same time and they both looked very healthy and the box size was about the same. However the Zoysia sprigs looked much thicker. Even after planting the Zoysia looks much thicker as can be seen on the right in the attached picture. In addition each Zoysia was larger so I was able to use the ProPlugger to make the holes for planting whereas I had to use a 1” square tube I happened to have for the Bermuda. With the ProPlugger, I wrote a product review for it, it took about 1/4th the time for the Zoysia as for the Bermuda since the ProPlugger removes the soil whereas the square tube just pushes the soil out of the way which was a lot of work.

I am assuming both plants will do well but the Zoysia was much easier to plant and looks much better. At this time I plan to purchased more Zoysia grass. I will edit this review after I’ve seen how well they spread and fill in the spaces.

I put these plugs down last year and it seems to have taken over my lawn. I will say this it takes time and care. make sure to overseed you lawn when putting this grass down to get better odds of success. But this product definitely works.”

“Zoysia arrived on time and looked amazing. I had to wait a couple of days before I could plant them, so I kept them in the sink and kept them watered. They still looked amazing when I put them in. Since watering is very important for the first couple of weeks, I bought a timer for my hose and a highly adjustable sprinkler from amazon and it was all done automatically. They have now been in several months and it is very hard to find them. I had also purchased this same product from this same vendor multiple times for another property several years ago. “I have purchased Zoysia plugs several times over the past 20 years or so. I now have a complete back yard of Zoysia, (which I started from scratch – and maintain myself). It was a bit difficult at first, because I have clay and unfavorable ground in general. But the Zoysia I first purchased was from a nursery/seller located in Taneytown MD, (I believe) and it is “top quality” grass. I could not afford to buy a large amount, so I bought two of their pallets. Trimming the plugs by hand, I made holes and stomped them into the clay, trying a number of “plugger” style tools.

After years of basically “no special treatment” – the grass took over my back yard and it is beautiful! Even where the “other” grass (weeds included) have not yet been “over-run” by the Zoysia, when May rolls around, the color is seamless, uniform, and matches perfectly.

When I had two large Oaks removed and stumps ground in the front yard, I used some Zoysia seed (very expensive) to fill in the large new growth areas. After the areas of seed fully germinated, I decided to try this product (ZOYSIA PLUG TRAY) to fill in the bare spots to speed up the process. When the order arrived I was very pleasantly surprised. The plugs are totally healthy and lush. They come nicely separated and are thriving in their individual tray “cups”. They slide right out with a tug and retain their cup shape for easy planting.

I used a planting auger on a cordless drill to make the holes, popped them in, stepped on them to seat them and watered the area per the directions. They never skipped a beat! They have ALL maintained their rich color and I can no longer determine the plugs from the rest of the filled areas.

I am very satisfied with these and I believe that if you just follow the directions, or research typical Zoysia planting and maintenance requirements, anyone can have the same beautiful results. I recommend this seller and their product.”

I have clay soils so I spend some time with proper soil amendments, coco peat, topsoil, pumice. You need a good base. Weather has been cool and wet.

Here is an update photo. I removed the seed cover from the original photo. In the third photo, you can see so called “super plugs” from Amazoy (Maryland company) Meyer Zoysia product. Never again. I’ll keep buying the Zenith Zoysia from Zoysiaplug.com. Great place.

June 13th 2017 Update:
I planted my plugs close and even sewed Zoysia seed in between, I didn’t want to wait years so that’s why I planted them 6-8 inches, staggered spacing. These plugs are just fantastic. The root structure is mature and many of them have runners already formed. Each tray is in a separate box so they don’t stack trays in one big box. They strap each box together which makes the package even stronger. Do not hesitate they have the best quality Zoysia plugs available.

August 2018 Update
In may, I replanted a few areas that did not do well over the winter. I had some low spots and this grass does not like to be flooded over the winter. The newly planted plugs are already filling in nicely. I also bought a used reel mower and have been using this to cut the zoysia this summer. I just placed an order for the front yard and Fedex messed up the shipping. Took over a week to arrive. Zoysia plug replaced the plugs free of charge. Great customer service. Great product.
